Constance Baker Motley was a politician that opened many doors for both African-American women and men. In 1964, Motley became the first African-American woman to join the New York State Senate.

  • She was the first African-American woman to become Manhattan's borough president.
  • Constance Baker Motley was also the first African-American female federal judge.
  • Motley was good friends with Coretta Scott King & Martin Luther King Jr.
