Born: November 30th, 1924
Died: January 1st, 2005


Shirley Chisholm became the first Black congresswoman of the United States Senate in 1968.

  • She was also the first Black candidate to bid for the United States presidency.
  • Chisholm ultimately left politics to become a teacher.
