DAY 17: Dorothy Height


Dorothy Height - Activist, Scholar
Born: March 24th, 1912
Died: April 20th, 2010


Dorothy Height worked very close with Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. to help make life better for Black women during the Civil Rights Movement. She made the improvement and empowerment of the Black female her sole purpose when she was appointed president of the National Council of Negro Women in 1957.

  • Dorothy Height studied at New York University, but was born in Richmond, Virginia.
  • She has won the 1994 Presidential Medal of Freedom and the 2004 Congressional Gold Medal.
